INNISFAIL – The Innisfail Eagles are finalizing details for their annual Sportsman’s Dinner on Sept. 19.

The event at the Innisfail Royal Canadian Legion now includes a number of other guests in addition to Hockey Night in Canada host and master of ceremonies Ron MacLean.

Special guests that are confirmed for the evening include Brian Sutter, Brent Sutter, Kurt Bensmiller, Mellisa Hollingsworth, Skeeter Thurston and Rob Kerr.

Innisfail Eagles president Brian Spiller said ticket sales are going well.

“I think we’ve sold about 250 of our 400 tickets so far,” said Spiller. “With us holding the Sportsman’s Dinner in September instead of August, unfortunately, most of the NHL coaches and players that Brian knows are all back at work already.

“We hope to have a great night and put on a night of entertainment and raise some money to help offset the costs of running an AAA hockey team,” he added.

In addition to the dinner, the fundraiser will also include both live and silent auctions and hockey talk with Brian Sutter and guests.

One additional feature to this year’s Sportsman’s Dinner includes a unique opportunity for attendees at the event.

“We are auctioning off the Ron MacLean table. If (eight) friends want to get together and make the high bid on that table, you can go for that too,” said Spiller. “The tables are $500 for a table of eight with the supper, but we’re going to make that a table of nine and put Ron at that table and the highest bidder gets to sit with Ron while he’s sitting and not (performing MC duties) for us.”

Spiller said the Eagles are busy preparing for the upcoming season.

“The Eagles started practising last night (Wednesday). The season is starting,” he said, noting an upcoming pre-season tournament in Lacombe at the end of September.

Individual tickets are $60 each and are available at Dairy Queen in Innisfail or at the Innisfail Auction Mart.
