The Olds Stingers lost a pair of games in Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League action on the weekend, getting outlasted 10-9 in overtime Saturday against the High River Heat and getting doubled up on, 6-3, by the Calgary Wranglers on Sunday.
Michael Bouma, the Stingers' head coach, said the team played an excellent game on Saturday after spotting the Heat three goals early in the game on penalties.
“We had a tough start in our first game against the High River Heat, took a couple bad penalties in the first period. We come back out (for the second) and the boys had a tremendous comeback,” he said, noting he was impressed with the team's character after taking the initial penalties.
“It could have gone either way. It was a very well played game after the first period,” he said.
In the game against the Wranglers, Bouma said the players did put forth a good effort but the Wranglers were simply better.
“It was a little tougher game. The boys did put some very good effort in. They had two very tough games this weekend, they just weren't able to capitalize,” he said.
The Stingers will finish up the regular season this week with games today and Sunday at the Olds Sports Complex, while they will also travel to Brooks to take on the Drillers on Saturday.
