It was a strong performance for Olds track athletes during the Senior High Zones, held in Calgary on May 22.

Grade 10 thrower Haylin Eling advanced to Provincials in shotput with a second-place throw of 11.97 metres (m), more than two m further than the third-place throw.

She also advanced in the discus throw after finishing in second place with a new personal best toss of 29.38 m.

Jesse Maetche advanced to Provincials in the 11th grade javelin throw with a second-place finish.

Marcus Lorenz placed fifth in a very tough discus competition.

Trinity Cenaiko and Eling each took sixth in their respective age classes in the javelin throw.

Grade 12 student Riley Franke finished seventh in the discus throw and fifth in the shotput.

Several members of the Velites track club dominated during the Junior High Zones in Didsbury on May 23.

Adam Jorgenson advanced in Grade 9 shotput with a first-place throw of 13.03 m, which Velites coach Rachel Andres described as "huge."

He also barely missed advancing in the discus and javelin, finishing third in both events.

Aimee Krause advanced in Grade 9 javelin throw with a first-place toss of 30.99 m "to beat the rest of the field by over three metres," Andres says.

Brynlee Race barely missed advancing in discus, finishing in third place with a throw of 18.76 m.
