School basketball teams have been gelling well as the season progresses.
At the Olds tournament over the weekend the Senior Girls lost to Strathmore by 20, lost to Olds by 25 and lost to Canmore by 30. The boys lost to Olds by 25, won by 15 against Sundre and lost by 30 to Rocky.
Junior High Girls beat Destiny Christian School Jan. 31, netting 49 to the opponents' 23, with Brooke Bilton and Kelsey Kolesnik both hitting 10 baskets each.
“We've been bonding as a team,” Kolesnik said, of the season's progression. “We've just been cheering each other on every play.”
The 14-year-old point guard says the team has been working on passing and communication.
Kathleen Macpherson, 14, who plays post, says the team gets better every game.
“Our team's coming together good,” she said, noting this is her third year on the court. “Now that I'm older it seems like more of a game.”
Coach Derek Baird says the girls have been eager to have an impact this season.
“The kids have bought in to hard work and discipline,” he said. “They have great teamwork.”
On Jan. 31 the Junior High Boys also beat Destiny, playing with just six players and pulling off a 61-34 win.
“They're playing really well together,” said coach Ed Coles, of the team's cohesion. “They've been reading the team's offence really well.”
