Ten ÉOHS track athletes qualify for Provincials

École Olds High School track teams have had a very successful season this spring, according to track coach Wanda Vandervelden. For example, 10 Spartans qualified for Provincials, which will be in Calgary June 7-8.

HEAVE HO! — Adam Jorgenson was among six members of the École Olds High School Grade 9 track team who qualified for zones as a a result of their performances during the junior high divisional track meet May 23 in Didsbury.

École Olds High School track teams have had a very successful season this spring, according to track coach Wanda Vandervelden.

For example, 10 Spartans qualified for Provincials, which will be in Calgary June 7-8. They're among 34 athletes who competed in Zones, also held in Calgary on May 22.

In the junior girls' division, Haylin Eling finished second in two throwing events — shotput and discus.

Jesse Maetche placed second in junior boys' javelin.

Abi Irving won the junior girls' 100 metre (m), 200 m and 400 m competitions.

Irving was also a member of the junior girls' 4-by-100 m relay team which finished in second place. Nova Van Soest, Teagan Rose and Aaralyn Longmuir are the other members of that relay team.

Dylan Ellis, Cody Gelinas, Rose and Longmuir will be competing in a new event this year — the mixed 4-by-400 m relay.

David Hoppins qualified for the intermediate boys' 100 m hurdles.

Jaeden Cameron placed second in the intermediate girls' 200 m.

Vandervelden described those results as "outstanding."

Also, six members of the school's Grade 9 track team got the chance to go to Zones May 28, having qualified as a result of their performances in the Chinook's Edge south meet on May 23.

Adam Jorgenson competed in shotput and Logan Grover participated in the 3,000 m event.

Aimee Kraus, Brylee Rice, Prairie McNeely and Chloe Gardner raced in the juvenile girls' 4-x-100 m relay.

McNeely also ran in the 1,500 m race while Gardner also competed in the high jump, triple Jump and 400 m race. Kraus also hurled the javelin.
