Olds throwing athlete and track coach Rachel Andres is now No. 2 in Canada in the women's open discus throw after setting a new provincial record during the Foote Open Field Provincials, held June 28-30 in Edmonton.

She set that record by throwing the discus 57.99 metres (m). It goes without saying that throw gave her first place and was a new personal best for her.

It also moved her up in the world rankings from No. 90 to No. 59, according to distance.

Andres says she had one throw that went even further, but unfortunately it landed out of bounds.

"My two-year-old proved to be quite distracting, so I had three throws that were pretty awful when he yelled “mommy” mid-throw," Andres wrote in an email to the Albertan. "(I) think he is just trying to help me, but we need to work on his timing so he waits until the end of the throw."

Andres' next meet occurs July 20-21 in Sherwood Park. She competes in the Nationals in Montreal on July 28.
