OLDS — Local throwing athletes finished off their season with some great results, coach Rachel Andres says.

The season ended with three meets in Calgary Aug. 26, Sept. 9, and Sept. 23-24.

In an email to the Albertan, Andres said nearly all the athletes she coaches competed in those meets, and the finale even attracted some American competitors.

During the first of those three meets, Jorja Shroeder threw a personal best (PB) in the javelin with a toss of 19.76 metres (m). In the shot put, Natalie Harrison also threw a new personal best of 9.90 m.

During the second meet, only individual events were offered.

Shroeder came very close to throwing a new PB again, just 19 centimetres (cm) off that mark.

Harrison threw a new PB in discus of 24.98 m and ended up just four cm off her personal best in javelin.

Dayley Reimer competed in all five throwing events and threw a new PB in the outdoor weight throw of 12.92 m.

In the third meet, Reimer competed in her very first throws pentathlon (the hammer, shot put, discus, javelin, and weight throw all thrown consecutively on the same day).

Andres said Reimer “threw very well,” scoring 2,489 points.

Jett Rosch threw what Andres described as a “huge” PB in discus, hurling it 36.56 m.

“He beat his old personal best by three-and-a-half metres," she wrote.

Shroeder hurled the discus to a new PB of 20.79 m.

Abigail Ripco tied her discus PB with a throw of 25.07 m.

Harrison PB’d in discus again with a toss of 25.14 m.

She also threw the hammer for the first time in competition after only a few practices and tossed it 23.84 m.

Andres described that performance as "pretty good for being so new to the event.”

The performances by all those athletes were “a great way to end the outdoor season,” Andres wrote.
