The Olds Pistols brought home gold last weekend after shutting down the Calgary West Valley Warriors with a 12-5 win in the U-14 girls provincial softball championships game.
Olds jumped out to a 6-0 lead after two innings with Rayna Cruickshanks hitting a two-run triple in each of the first two innings. West Valley scored three in the top of the third and tightened the gap to 8-5 in the fourth, but the Pistols scored four in the bottom of the fifth to put the game out of reach. Leading 12-5, the game was called thanks to a Softball Alberta mercy rule of seven runs ahead after five innings.
Offensive standouts for Olds were Gracie Hodgson, with three hits and two runs batted in, pitcher Nova Van Soest with two hits and three RBI, and Rayna Cruickshanks with her two triples and four RBI.
The Pistols were undefeated throughout the championships, winning all six games.
