Volleyball tourney featured great action

CARSTAIRS-DIDSBURY - The Didsbury High School Dragons and the Hugh Sutherland School Kodiaks from Carstairs co-hosted a 16-team volleyball tournament over the weekend with teams coming from all over Alberta and even Saskatchewan.

After two days of tough competition, the Vauxhall Vikings ended up as the champions. The Vikings downed Strathcona-Tweedsmuir from Okotoks in the final, while Olds High School finished third after beating Acme in the bronze medal game.

Cremona School finished second in the consolation side, falling to Magrath in the consolation final after beating Three Hills and Picture Butte earlier Saturday.

Didsbury placed sixth on the consolation side after falling to Our Lady of Mount Pleasant in the fifth-place game. Earlier Saturday Didsbury beat Hugh Sutherland 27-25 and 25-16 and lost to Magrath 25-6 and 25-21.

Hugh Sutherland finished eighth on the consolation side falling to Three Hills, Didsbury and Lutheran Collegiate Bible Institute from Outlook, Sask.

In round-robin play on Friday, Olds finished second in its pool with wins over Our Lady of Mount Pleasant of Camrose and Lutheran Collegiate Bible Institute, and a loss to Vauxhall.

Didsbury, Cremona and Hugh Sutherland all placed fourth in their respective pools.
