Former Olds resident Danielle Lappage has some huge wrestling tournaments coming up.
On Aug. 3, she competes in an international tournament in Poland.
After that, she heads to Kazakhstan for the World Championships, where she'll be competing on Sept. 19-20.
Lappage is studying law at the University of Calgary. She has been wrestling with the university's Calgary Dinos.
Lappage has turned in some incredible performances in the lead-up to those upcoming tournaments.
She finished second during the Yasar Dogu tournament, held July 11-14 in Istanbul, Turkey.
"In Turkey, I lost 1-1 in the final," Lappage wrote in an email to the Albertan. "Small technical errors were the difference between gold and silver."
On June 30, she won the 68 kilogram (kg) class during the Canada Cup tournament in Calgary.
Lappage qualified for the World Championships on June 26. She had to compete in a special wrestle-off for a place on the world team in the 68 kg class because she had to miss the Nationals in March, due to an injury.
"I won two matches in a row (in a best-of-three series)," she wrote.
"I just want to keep implementing what I have been working on in practice into my matches, and continue to progress and improve. Poland will provide me more matches and opportunities to do this."
Lappage said travel doesn't bother her and is not a factor in her competition success.
"I have gotten used to it and have methods to minimize the effects of jet leg/ time change," she added.
