Wrestlers from Olds High School performed well at the first tournament of the season in Calgary on December 7 and 8.

Jeremy Zawalykut finished with a second-place finish in the 98-kilogram division while Mitchell Ormann finished fourth in the 62-kilogram division and Lauren Robblee finished fifth in the 57-kilogram division at the Cowboy Shootout in Calgary. Austin and Kevin Waldron and William Rieswig also competed at the event from OHS.

“I thought the results were fantastic for us. It's a tough tournament and we haven't had that many practices so I was pleased with the level of sportsmanship and the level of intensity that the kids brought to their matches,” said George Grant, the wrestling coach for OHS.

The tournament featured primarily southern Alberta wrestlers but there were also a few from Central Alberta, including the Edmonton area.

There will be a larger Spartan contingent going to Lethbridge on Dec. 14 for the LCI Green and Gold tournament.
