MOUNTAIN VIEW COUNTY – The Mountain View County municipal planning commission has approved a permit for a proposed garden tour business at an existing greenhouse in the Jackson rural community in Division 1.

The move came by way of motion during the commission’s regularly scheduled June 4 meeting.

The permit is for a proposed agritourism business as well as a change of use for the existing greenhouse from agriculture to commercial use. The property is located northwest of the intersection of Rge. Rd. 30 and Twp. Rd. 302 at SE 13-30-3-5.

The applicant is proposing to have tour buses access the site three times a year, members of the commission heard.

“The business will allow the applicant to diversify the agricultural operation onsite by providing garden tours to seniors within the area that will be arriving by bus,” administration said in a briefing note to the commission.

The one- to two-hour tours will operate May 1 through Sept. 1 during the hours of 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. There will be one bus at a time, with up to three buses a year bringing as many as 40 people.

The approval came with a number of conditions, including that the travel route to the property will be from Highway 766 east along Twp. Rd. 302 to the existing approach.

The municipal planning commission is the county’s approving authority and is made up of county councillors as well as appointed public members.
