MOUNTAIN VIEW COUNTY - The county’s agricultural service board (ASB) has approved several conservation projects in the Rosebud River watershed near Didsbury.
The approvals came by way of motions during the board’s recent, regularly-scheduled meeting.
For an ALUS project located in the Rosebud River watershed, at NE 25-31-02-W5, members approved funding for 75 per cent of the material costs to a maximum of $5,000 for creek fencing and 25 per cent of material costs to a maximum of $4,876 for a winter watering system.
The project will support 150 cows on 23.4 acres of riparian pasture. It involves 1,459 metres of new riparian fencing and the watering system.
Annual payments of $4,795 for maintenance for the project was also approved.
A second ALUS project, also in the Rosebud River watershed, at 03-31-01-W5, received funding for 100 per cent of material costs to a maximum of $1,320 for dugout fencing and 25 per cent of material costs to a maximum of $1,428 for a winter solar watering system.
The project will support 120 heifers on 18 acres of riparian pasture. Annual payment of $6,395 for the maintenance of the project was also approved.
The board also approved a project, also in the Rosebud River watershed, at SE 12-32-02-W5, under the Riparian & Ecological Enhancement Program (REEP).
The project will see funding to a maximum of $4,808 for a winter watering system and 25 per cent of material costs to a maximum of $2,653.
The project will support 150 cows with the watering system on a new well and a watering system on new dugout.
During the recent ASB meeting, members also received delegation appearances about recent Red Deer ALUS projects.
The ASB is made up of county councillors and appointed members of the local farm community.
