MOUNTAIN VIEW COUNTY — The COVID-19 outbreak has forced a Water Valley man to postpone his plans to climb a mountain in Argentina until 2022.
Jeffery Bilow, 44 had planned to Mount Aconcagua in Argentina this month as part of his goal to complete the Seven Summits challenge — climb the tallest peaks on the world’s seven continents -- before he turns 50.
However, the pandemic forced him to put that on hold.
“Given COVID restrictions and such I’ve had to postpone my next climb until January 2022 to Aconcagua unfortunately,” he wrote in an email.
The Mount Aconcagua climb would be the second peak in Bilow’s quest.
He has already climbed the first mountain in that challenge, Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, Africa.
The other mountains in the project are in Alaska, Russia, Antarctica and southeast Asia — including Mount Everest, which at 8,846 metres will be his highest climb.
Bilow got the idea to climb all these mountains after his wife passed away from cancer in 2016 at age 32.
