MOUNTAIN VIEW COUNTY - RCMP detachment commanders in Didsbury, Olds and Sundre have updated Mountain View County on recent police activities in the municipality.
Covering July 1 to Sept. 30, the reports from the three commanders were reviewed by council at the recent regularly schedule council meeting.
The reports outline activities in the rural areas of the county, and include crime statistics, human resources and financial data, as well as ongoing monitoring of habitual offenders in the district.
Staff Sgt. Stephen Browne is the detachment commander of Didsbury RCMP. In his report he outlined progress in various community policing priorities.
Browne said habitual offender management has had success during the reporting period.
“Enforcement has resulted in the decrease of habitual offenders within Mountain View County based on a collaboration of information gathering and teamwork,” said Browne.
“Thirty-eight compliance checks were completed on local habitual offenders resulting in seven charges against two individuals.”
Regarding rural drug enforcement, he said officers “continue to be involved in drug enforcement files in the area of Mountain View County and work to prevent any new people related to the drug trade from movie into and residing in the area.”
The Didsbury detachment in partnership with Chinook Arch Victim Services and Pastor Colin Creighton will soon be starting family violence support and education in the detachment area, he said.
The regional policing and crisis management team is now actively serving the Mountain View County area, he noted.
There was a total of 112 Criminal Code complaints received in the reporting period, including 32 persons crimes and 62 property crimes.
Olds RCMP Staff Sgt. Warren Wright submitted the report for activities in the county portion of his detachment area.
Regarding crime prevention and enforcement - property crime and drugs, he said several habitual offender curfew and compliance checks were completed during the reporting period.
Regarding mental health and domestic violence, he said detachment members participated in an Alberta Health - substance abuse coalition at the Olds College wetlands/garden which was attended by Mountain View County residents.
“The workshop taught participants the community supports in place to address the needs of persons and families struggling with addiction,” he said.
There were a total of 111 Criminal Code complaints received in the reporting period, including 18 persons crimes and 81 property crimes.
Sundre RCMP Sgt. Trent Sperlie submitted the report for activities in the county portion of his detachment area.
Regarding property crime, he said, “We have arrested three prolific offenders during this quarter. Although the property crime trend during this quarter had a tremendous spike, the arrests made by Sundre, Olds, Three Hills, Strathmore (and other police units) have had a significant impact on the decline of property crime.
“This decline started in the third month of this quarter and we should see an equally significant decline into the next quarter.”
There were a total of 239 Criminal Code complaints received in the reporting period, including 35 persons crimes and 167 property crimes.
