Former Mountain View County councillor remembered during RMA conference

MOUNTAIN VIEW COUNTY - A former Mountain View County councillor and deputy reeve was among the municipal leaders remembered during the Rural Municipalities of Alberta (RMA) fall conference Tuesday.

John ‘Jack’ Emory Peck died on July 26, 2024 at the age of 87.

He served as a Mountain View County councillor from 1992 to 1998 and as deputy reeve from 1995 to 1998.

He was among 13 people who died within the last year who’s contributions were honoured by RMA Nov. 5.

RMA represents Alberta’s 69 counties and municipal districts and holds a conference in the spring and fall. The fall conference runs Nov. 4 - 7 in Edmonton.

“Today, we paused to remember and honour those who dedicated their lives to the service of our community and who are no longer with us. Their commitment, vision, and sacrifices have shaped the very fabric of our town and continue to inspire us today,” RMA stated on a social media post Tuesday, Nov. 5.

Other municipal leaders who were honoured included:

• former Parkland County councillor Allan Hoefsloot;

• former Lacombe County councillor George Weenick;

• former Birch Hills deputy reeve Denise Joudrey;

• former County of Stettler councillor Russell Stewart;

• former County of Forty Mile councillor/reeve Bryne Lengyel;

• former Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo councillor Jane Stroud;

• former County of Vermillion River reeve Lonnie Wolgien;

• former Birch Hills County councillor Jack Macauley;

• former County of Minburn councillor Gordon Miller;

• former County of Grande Prairie councillor Ross Sutherland;

• former Athabasca County councillor/reeve Berkley Ferguson; and

• former Municipal District of Pincher Creek councillor Hilton Roy Pharis.
