MOUNTAIN VIEW COUNTY - Mountain View County council has approved a cost-sharing arrangement with the Town of Olds to help finance needed repairs to the Olds Sportsplex.

The decision to provide up to $125,000 to fund the repairs was made by way of motion at the Jan. 29 county council meeting.

“There are several immediate repairs required at the Sportsplex,” said Jeff Holmes, county chief administrative officer. “Town administration is in the process of building a 10-year capital plan for town council to budget for their mid-term needs and better inform the conversation on the long-term future of that building.”

The 2025 repairs are brine pump replacement ($50,000), compressors replacement ($60,000), ramps and retaining wall upgrades ($210,000), and replacement of main sub and distribution panels ($260,000), for a total of $580,000.

“The town and the Olds Curling Club are still determining appropriation of costs for the distribution panel,” he said.

“If it is determined the club is required to contribute to the project that amount will reduce the net municipal costs that the county cost shares.”

All council members who were present voted in favour of the motion. Deputy reeve Dwayne Fulton did not attend the Jan. 29 council meeting.
