MOUNTAIN VIEW COUNTY - County councillors received a bump in remuneration effective Jan. 1 as part of cost of living increases for county staff approved in the 2024 budget.
Councillors yearly base rate pay of $41,047.52 in 2023 has increased to $43,423.54.
The deputy reeve base rate pay of $46,784 in 2023 increased to $48,346.79.
The reeve base pay of $72,912.25 increased to $75,436.17.
In all, the reeve, deputy reeve and councillors will receive $340,900.66 in base rate pay in 2024.
The same increases for councillors, deputy reeve and reeve will also apply on Jan. 1, 2025.
The per diem rates for all councillors, including reeve and deputy reeve, increased from $341.49 per day in 2023 to $351.74 in 2024.
Under county policy #1004 and procedure #1004-01, basic rate means the rate paid to councillors for attendance such things as regularly scheduled council meetings, special council meetings, meetings with residents and community groups, including open houses and public meetings, informal meetings with the chief administrative officer, as well as preparation for council and committee meetings.
Per diem means the daily rate paid to councillors for attendance at approved meetings, including council committee meetings, conferences, conventions, and meetings with other municipalities.
Under the policy and procedure, basic and per diem rates are reviewed annually by council and adjusted yearly by the same cost of living percent adjustment approved for administration wages.
Remuneration for all expenses claimed (with the exception of basic rates) must be reviewed by the reeve and the reeve's expense claims must be reviewed by the deputy reeve to ensure that expenses claimed are in accordance with this policy.
Last month, council approved a cost of living adjustment of three per cent, compared to a consumer price index of 3.7 per cent from September 2023 to September 2024.
