MOUNTAIN VIEW COUNTY - The Henry farm family in Eagle Valley has been recognized for 100 years of contributing to the local agricultural community.
“We are absolutely honoured to have received the award,” said Lynne Henry, who lives on the farm with her mother Mildred, 98.
The Henry farm was one of 19 Alberta family farms receiving the 2022 BMO Family Farm Award at the Calgary Stampede. The farm was nominated for the award by Mountain View County.
Founded in 1921 northeast of Sundre, the Henry farm has continued as a mixed farming operation for its entire 100 years, experiencing many technological changes over the years, including the arrival of rural electricity and power-driven farm equipment.
Over the years family members has been deeply involved in many community initiatives and activities, including as members of the municipal council, the school district and the local cemetery board. Family members have also been involved in documenting the history of the district, supporting the creation of the “Wagon Trails Paved Over” book.
“It is our hope that the family farm will continue to be a viable source of revenue for the next generation while also contributing to the community as a whole,” said Lynne.
