MOUNTAIN VIEW COUNTY - County council has been given a review of 2022 Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) grant application approvals totalling $130,000.
The update came during a regularly-scheduled Mountain View County council meeting last month, held in person and by Zoom. The applications from community groups were reviewed and considered by the county’s grant review committee.
FCSS is an 80/20 per cent funding partnership between the provincial government and participating municipalities. It allows a community to design and deliver social programs that are preventative in nature and to promote and enhance well-being among individuals, families and communities.
“The programs developed are intended to help individuals within their communities to adopt healthy lifestyles, thereby improving the quality of life and building the capacity to prevent and/or deal with crisis situations should they arise,” said Jeff Holmes, Mountain View County's chief administrative officer.
Allocations approved by the review committee include Boys and Girls Club of Olds and Area ($11,000), Chinook Arch Victim's Services ($10,000), Didsbury Municipal Library teen advisory board ($2,500), Didsbury Preschool Society learning through play program ($2,500), Essentials for our Community Konnection Kitchen ($10,000), and Greenwood Neighbourhood Place seniors connections ($3,000).
Also receiving funds is Mountain View Emergency Shelter Society for outreach programs and services ($10,500), Mountain View Moccasin House Society for Indigenous culture awareness ($2,500), Olds & District Hospice Society for advertising and volunteer development ($4,000), Town of Didsbury Out of School Care program ($4,000) and Town of Didsbury Seniors Friends and Fun program ($4,000).
The committee approved grants totalling $94,960 in 2021.
