MOUNTAIN VIEW COUNTY - Effective immediately on Tuesday, April 23 a fire restriction has been put in place for all of Mountain View County.
The restriction has been imposed due to dry and windy conditions with minimal precipitation anticipated, Chris Atchison, the county's director of legislative, community and agricultural services, told the Albertan.
All current fire and firework permits are cancelled and no new fire or fireworks permits will be issued until the restriction is lifted.
Activities permitted under the restriction include cooking of food using a barbecue, fires in acceptable fire pits or acceptable fireplaces provided “only clean fuels is used such as natural gas, dry wood or charcoal in amounts which will be contained within the fire pit or fireplace below the mesh screen.”
The fires in the fire pits and fireplaces must be kept under control and supervised at all times by a responsible adult person until such time that the fire has been completely extinguished.
Burning only burnable debris in an acceptable burning barrel is allowed.
Recreational fires are also allowed.
Red Deer County issued a fire restriction order on April 19 which remains in place.
