MOUNTAIN VIEW COUNTY - A new honorary brand has been approved for use by Mountain View County, officials said Wednesday.
The brand was designed by Carstairs-area resident Zander Ewert as part of a county-wide brand design contest.
County council accepted the brand by motion last month and instructed administration to proceed with the honorary brand application with the provincial Livestock Identifications Services (LIS).
The county awaited approval from LIS before identifying the brand contest winner and the brand design.
Open to all ages starting last summer, the contest sought a brand design that had three characteristics: Distinctly represents Mountain View County; uniquely reflects the county heritage; and illustrates the county’s strong agricultural identify.
Deadline for submissions was Dec. 31, 2024.
The brand will be used in future county marketing activities, say officials.
Any brand design can be registered as an honorary brand, though honorary brands can feature more intricate and arbitrary features than standard brands, provided that approval from the Livestock Identification Services is granted.
Council is expected to officially recognizing Ewert as the winner of the contest with a commemorative gift showcasing the brand at a future council meeting, said director of agriculture service Chris Atchison.
