MOUNTAIN VIEW COUNTY – Citing the much-needed relief provided by the recent precipitation, officials announced yesterday that the total fire banin Mountain View County has been lifted.
“Please note that the fire ban previously in effect for Mountain View County was lifted effective August 6,” reads a statement on the county’s website posted the same day.
“There is currently no fire restriction nor fire ban in place.”
The Sundre Fire Department’s Chief Ross Clews told the Albertan on Wednesday, Aug. 7 that the town quickly followed suit.
“Yesterday morning, we removed the fire ban because of the precipitation we received and the forecast going forward,” he said.
“I love the rain,” he added, with a laugh.
“The rain is very welcome and we need it; not only to prevent fires, but for agricultural purposes as well.”
Meanwhile a fire ban enacted in Didsbury on Tuesday continues to be in place. The ban, along with water restrictions are in place as a precaution while a piece of the town's water system undergoes maintenance over the next few weeks.
