MOUNTAIN VIEW COUNTY - A 37-year-old Sundre man charged after a fellow resident was shot and killed in January 2024 has been ordered to stand trial, court officials said.
Richard McCulloch faces a charge of second-degree murder in the death of Justin Goodhand, 36.
McCulloch’s preliminary hearing was held in Alberta Court of Justice Calgary March 3-7. At the conclusion of the hearing, the accused was ordered to stand trial in Calgary Court of King’s Bench.
Preliminary hearings are held to determine if there is enough evidence to send an accused person to trial. Testimony given during preliminary hearings cannot be reported.
Goodhand was shot at a residence northeast of Sundre in Mountain View County on Jan. 25, 2024. He was pronounced dead at hospital shortly after the shooting.
A date for McCulloch’s trial has not yet been set. He has already elected to be tried by judge and jury.
