MOUNTAIN VIEW COUNTY – County council has reviewed and approved community grant allocations that include almost $50,000 in transportation funding for groups in the district.
The move came by way of motions during the recent regularly scheduled council meeting, held in person and online.
The grant allocation committee reviewed and approved grant allocations for cemetery funding, rural community organizations, rural community halls and transportation.
The committee approved allocations totalling $49,131 in public transportation and operating assistance grants. Groups receiving the funding include $17,500 to Accredited Supports to the Community, $5,000 to the Cremona School Enhancement Society, $3,000 to the Didsbury Lions Club, $4,000 the Olds & District Evergreen Club and $4,000 to the Sundre Community Van Association.
“This grant is established to improve mobility options for those who do not have access to their own transportation,” said Chris Atchison, director of legislative services, adding it enhances “the capacity to better meet the local community transportation demand and contribute to organizations that support local community and regions for viable options of transportation services.”
The allocation committee also included $18,800 in 2024 cemetery grant applications.
Rural community grants totalling $76,426 were approved, including $10,000 to Olds Regional Exhibition, $8,000 to Didsbury Elks, and $8,000 to the Didsbury Agricultural Society, as well as $6,500 to the Mountain View BearSmart Society.
“This grant may be used towards operating or facility upgrade costs and expenditure required for recreational, cultural and agriculture programs and facilities,” Atchison said.
Rural community hall grants totalling $98,262 were approved, including $9,000 to Dogpound Agriculture for repairs and maintenance, $8,000 to Eagle Hill Memorial Community Hall for upkeep and maintenance, and $48,000 to East Olds Baptist Church for a sidewalk and front entry project.
Council accepted the 2024 community grant report as information.
The county requires all groups and organizations receiving grant funding to provide financial statements and outline how the money provided was spent, council heard.
