MOUNTAIN VIEW COUNTY - Tiffany Nixon has defeated Sean LaBrie in the Division 4 byelection in Mountain View County, according to unofficial results released Wednesday.

The byelection was held Oct. 16 to replace former councillor Gord Krebs, who resigned in August.

According to unofficial results, Nixon garnered 191 total votes -- 145 in Wednesday's general vote and 46 in the two advance polls.

Ballots were hand-counted.

LaBrie garnered a total of 158 votes, 110 in the general vote and 48 in the advance polls.

Only electors in Division 4 could vote in the byelection. A total of 349 votes were cast.

Nixon, who lives on an acreage in the Bergen area and works in Sundre, was seeking public office for the first time.

During the campaign she said there are many issues and projects she would like to address should she be elected.

“Some of the focus that I’ve come across would be sustainable development, protecting agricultural land, property taxes, community support, infrastructure improvement and maintenance,” she said.

Division 4 serves Elkton/Rugby, Westcott, parts of Fallentimber, Bergen, Harmattan and Westerdale.

The byelection results will become official on Oct. 20 at noon.

The byelection was the first in the current council term, which ends in October 2025.

Nixon’s husband Jason Nixon is Rimbey-Rocky Mountain House-Sundre UCP MLA and minister of Seniors, Community and Social Services.
