WATER VALLEY - The 44th annual Terry Fox Run in Water Valley saw 41 participants and volunteers come out in support of cancer research and survivors support event.

“What a beautiful day for the run,” said longtime local run organizer and coordinator Mary Thomson.

“So far our total money raised is just over $10,000 so we reached our goal of $8,400 this year with some online pledges yet to come,” she said a day after the Sept. 15 run. In update given Thursday, Thomson said $10,500 was raised.

Many of those in attendance stopped and enjoyed a barbecued hot dog and fresh baking and toured the memorabilia of past runs, she said.

“Many of our longtime friends make this possible”.

As always, runs came from Water Valley and beyond for the annual run.

This year's route was north to the Bear Ridge Estates turnoff and then back south to Water Valley Golf Course road and back to the start in the hamlet.

This year saw a first time walker, Ron Hoffmann, 86, from Carstairs came and walked the entire 10 km route.

Thomson says she will be reporting on the final amounts raised in the coming weeks.
