MOUNTAIN VIEW COUNTY — A woman has pleaded guilty to aggravated assault in connection with an incident in which a man was shot in the county.
Jessica McClintock, 34, of Calgary pleaded guilty to the charge during an appearance in Queen’s Bench Court in Calgary Aug. 17 before Justice Willie deWit.
A pre-sentence report on the matter is expected on Sept. 9. Sentencing is expected to occur later.
It’s expected that at sentencing, two other charges will be stayed by the Crown.
That means they're placed on hold. The Crown has up to a year to bring them back for prosecution if it so chooses.
McClintock was initially charged with one count of unlawfully wounding, maiming, disfiguring or endangering a life and two counts of discharging a firearm with intent to endanger life.
According to an agreed statement of facts read out loud during the Aug. 17 proceedings, the incident dates back to March 20, 2020 at a home near the junction of Twp. Rd 320 and Rge. Rd. 290 east of Olds.
It stemmed from a belief by McClintock that some property belonging to her had been kept by residents. There was also a dispute over money owed.
Court was told that before the incident, McClintock enlisted her boyfriend, while he was in remand, to help her get her belongings back and help settle the matter.
The boyfriend agreed to do so and offered to bring a gun to intimidate the residents.
Sometime after they entered the house, the gun went off. One of the men, Billy Jack James Williams, 47, was wounded and airlifted to hospital where he later recovered.
It was alleged that shots were also fired at another man, Brent Peterson.
Court was told that McClintock drove off the property, ditched the vehicle and called a friend to pick her up.
On Feb. 10, 2021, Lyle Robert Walter Vance, 28, of Red Deer pleaded guilty in provincial court in Calgary to discharging a firearm with intent, careless use of a firearm and possession of a firearm, contrary to a prohibition order.
He was sentenced to six years, to be served consecutively with a current term he was already serving. He was also ordered to provide his DNA and was prohibited from possessing firearms.
