LOS ANGELES (AP) — Gary Colson, who successfully lobbied to introduce the 3-point shot to college basketball during a 34-year coaching career that included stops at Fresno State, New Mexico and Pepperdine, died Friday. He was 89.

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) — Walter Davis, a five-time NBA All-Star who had his number retired by the Phoenix Suns, has died. He was 69. Davis was star in college for North Carolina where he played for the late Dean Smith.

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Bob Knight built his best teams with a blend of talent and fit. It was never more evident than on the 12-man roster he selected for the 1984 U.S. Olympic team.

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) — Bob Knight, the brilliant and combustible coach who won three NCAA titles at Indiana and for years was the scowling face of college basketball, has died. He was 83.

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) — Indiana fans always waited for Bob Knight to lose his temper. It was as much a part of Hoosiers basketball under Knight as the wins. On Feb. 23, 1985, it didn't take long.

Bob Knight's long, illustrious career can be defined by his long list of accomplishments. He won three national championships and appeared in five Final Fours as a coach.

Hall of Fame coach Bob Knight left an indelible legacy with his coaching tree. The branches include a Super Bowl winner, a five-time national champion and one of college basketball's top young coaches.

Hall of Fame coach Bob Knight won three national championships, 11 Big Ten titles and 902 career games. He led the last undefeated Division I men’s basketball champion.

LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) — Sam Ball, an All-American offensive tackle at Kentucky who was a member of two Super Bowl teams with the Baltimore Colts, has died. He was 79.
