In Loving Memory

Gwen Ida Falk ( ne: Therou) passed away peacefully at the Innisfail Health Centre on Thursday August 29, 2024 surrounded by her loving family at the age of 76 years.

Our dearest Gwen fought her long, and valiant battle with courage, dignity and kindness with never a word of complaint.

Gwen was born in Killam Alberta to her loving parents Stanley and Marjorie Therou. She was the second child in a family of five children.

She had fond memories of the early years on the family farm near Lougheed Alberta. In 1956 the family relocated to Edmonton.

Gwen was very active throughout her youth in the Edmonton Southside Church of the Nazarene where she made many lifelong friends.

Early in life she made the most important decision, to become a follower of Jesus. She dedicated her life to serving God, and demonstrated this life in loving and serving others.

Gwen had a beautiful soprano voice. In earlier days she loved to sing with her sister Lorraine, the Leedholm gang, her husband Doug and anyone else who may  be close by; she wasn’t fussy.     She also enjoyed singing in numerous choirs and groups.

Gwen graduated from the University of Alberta and began her teaching career in     Edmonton. She was a gifted educator and loved teaching elementary school children.

Gwen enjoyed a second career with Red Deer Public Library; cherished the friendships she made there and enjoyed her work immensely. She served there for 27 years.

Gwen fostered a love for books and was an avid reader. She enjoyed discussing the books she read; and talking about her favourite authors.

She was a dedicated gardener. For many years she cared for the perennial garden at Camp Harmattan. With her efforts over time it became a place of beauty.

Gwen loved southern gospel music. She enthusiastically attended the gospel quartet convention in Red Deer each July for many years.

In 1976 Gwen, with her husband Doug, moved to Innisfail and established their home here. They spent many happy years in this community among family and friends that she loved and served enthusiastically  in her church.

Gwen was a dedicated mother to her sons Dan and Jeff. She spent many hours in hockey arenas, at football fields, ball diamonds, golf courses, and at many other activities her kids were involved in. She would transport them faithfully without complaint.

Gwen is lovingly remembered by her husband of 54 years Doug, her son Jeff (Shannelle), her son Dan (Toni-rae), her precious grandchildren Jackson, Grady, Ryan, Hunter, Aubrey, and Logan. Also her brother Cliff (Barb) her brother Ray (Holly) and her dearest sister and best friend Lorraine.                                          Also, lovingly remembered by her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Darrel and Joyce.

Also, so precious to Gwen were her numerous nieces, nephews, and many life long friends. Her faithful furry companion Izzy was right by her side always.

Gwen’s family would like to express a special thank you to Dr. Jesse Christiansen, Dr. Jacob Chacko and the numerous nursing staff at the Innisfail Health Care Centre who cared for Gwen with compassion and kindness during her last days. Thank you also to Dana Howell, Shilyn Seeley and many other home care staff who took care of Gwen.

Gwen leaves an enormous void in this world. Gwen, your accomplishments and spirit live on through those of us you loved and who loved you.

We will strive to honour you in the way we live, learn and love.

We will love you always until we see you again.

A celebration of Gwen’s life will take place on Saturday September 14th 2024 at the Innisfail Church of the Nazarene 2:00 PM.  Gwen’s pastor, Rev Jeff Baker, officiating.
