1937 – 2021
Mr. James Roy ‘Jim’ Zimmerman passed away unexpectedly at his home in Innisfail, Alberta on Friday, April 9, 2021 at the age of 83 years.
Jim lived a humble life filled with family, friends, work and his passion for gardening. The great loves of his life were his wife, Sheila (nee Pedersen) of fifty-eight years, his son, David and family (Alberto, Karla and family) and his daughter, Denise (Axel) Lear, with grandsons, August and Markus. He is survived by his youngest brother, Dwight (Pat) and family of Olds, sisters-in-law Ruth Zimmerman of Olds and Audrey Zimmerman of Nova Scotia. He will also be missed by a multitude of nieces, nephews and their families, too numerous to name.
Jim was born in Didsbury, second youngest of thirteen children born to Gottlieb and Mary Zimmerman. He lived most of his life in the Olds/Bowden areas, before and after an eight year stint on Vancouver Island, ending up in Innisfail for the past four years. He had a strong work ethic and was a multi-talented man with a variety of interests: including Louis L’Amour books, wood-work, jewelry making, clocks and ceramics. He was able to turn a block of wood into beautifully carved birds, furniture, jewelry, signs, whistles and birdhouses. Family members will cherish the silver jewelry he created and gave as gifts. Throughout his life, his love of gardening was most evident. He could grow anything from a seed or cutting. He enjoyed sharing his passions with his children and grandchildren, and we are all richer. His faith and church community were very important to him and will provide comfort to his family at this difficult time.
