Olds firefighters are urging drivers to be more careful as they deal with increased traffic during the summer.

That comes in the wake of a harrowing period during which the department responded to one urban and six rural motor vehicle collisions from July 11-15.

As of last week, all those incidents were still being investigated.

It all began Thursday, July 11 when Olds firefighters responded to a vehicle that jumped a sidewalk and struck a building in Cornerstone Plaza.

Then on Friday, July 12, a two-vehicle collision occurred at the intersection of Rge Rd. 1-5 and Twp Rd. 33-4.

On Saturday, July 13, a three-vehicle collision on Highway 2 was reported.

Then on Sunday, July 14, Olds firefighters responded to three separate vehicle collisions on Highway 2 involving a total of nine vehicles.

On Monday, July 15, firefighters responded to a single-vehicle rollover on Highway 766.

"The Olds Fire Department would like to remind motorists to be patient and aware of changes in traffic behaviour with higher summer traffic volumes," a news release said. "Maintain a safe distance between you and the vehicle in front of you."
