OLDS — The Olds Regional Exhibition (ORE) is celebrating a big anniversary – its 125th year of existence.

ORE president James Carpenter made note of the milestone recently during the first night of the Oldstoberfest rodeo earlier this month.

“Ladies and gentlemen, what a privilege it is to serve this community,” Carpenter said to the crowd.

“For 125 years, the Olds Regional Exhibition has been here. We plan to be here for another 125.

“We’re thankful for the volunteers and those in this community that have made this possible. We’re thankful for (organizers and stock providers) C5 Rodeo and their commitment to this community.

“We hope that you will join us as we chart a path for the next 125 years.”

After his speech, as part of Oldstoberfest tradition, the first keg of beer was tapped in the middle of the infield. Carpenter and other officials then drank the first beers poured from that keg, and the rodeo began.

The ORE also issued a news release about the anniversary.

“From our humble beginnings in 1899 as a small agricultural society, we’ve grown into one of Alberta’s oldest and most respected institutions,” the release said.

“For over a century we’ve been dedicated to fostering agricultural excellence, nurturing the growth of young people and serving our community.

“What started as a modest gathering of farmers and ranchers has blossomed into a cornerstone organization, known for showcasing Alberta’s agricultural heritage and investing in the leaders of tomorrow.

“For 125 years, we’ve proudly supported youth programs, celebrated Alberta’s finest livestock, and cultivated a spirit of hard work and shared vision in our community.

“Our influence extends far beyond the physical grounds of the exhibition, reaching families and communities across the province.

“Whether it is hosting world-class cattle shows or offering educational opportunities for youth, we have remained steadfast in our commitment to both tradition and progress.

“Now, as we look to the future, we are excited about the new chapter that lies ahead.

“With new management in leadership and the guidance of our diverse, dynamic and engaged board of directors, we are prepared to embrace significant changes that will shape the next 125 years.

“Our board, alongside our dedicated team, is committed to expanding our programs, welcoming fresh ideas and continuing to make a meaningful impact – all while remaining true to the core values that have guided us for over a century.

“We are also thrilled to have partnered with C5 Rodeo who have been excellent collaborators in bringing Oldstoberfest to our community.

“Their dedication has elevated the rodeo experience, providing an unforgettable event for our attendees, while deepening the connection between agriculture and rodeo in Alberta.

“This partnership exemplifies the type of collaborative spirit that will carry us forward into the future.

“ORE’s legacy isn’t just about celebrating the past, it’s about building the future. Generations of farmers, ranchers and youth have walked through our gates, leaving their mark on Alberta’s agricultural landscape.

“As we move forward, we remain proud of our heritage and energized by the potential of what’s to come.

“Together, we will continue to build on our rich tradition, ensuring that the Olds Regional Exhibition remains a beacon of excellence for many years to come.

“The celebration at Oldstoberfest was a fitting tribute to an institution that has stood the test of time. And as we mark 125 years of service, we remain a shining example of how dedication to agriculture, youth and community values can leave a lasting legacy for generations to follow.”
