Fireworks will be set off after the Santa Claus parade on Nov. 30 as part of the uptown Light Up events.
The fireworks will be set off at about 7:45 p.m. at O.R. Hedges Park.
"It’s because it’s our 20th year (hosting the light-up) so we wanted to start it off with a bang," said Peter Pape, chair of the Olds Fashioned Christmas committee.
In addition to the parade, which begins at 5 p.m., two mini-trains, hayrides and other events will take place in Centennial Park beginning at 4:30 p.m. Hotdogs and hot chocolate will also be available in the park.
The parade starts at the Olds Agricultural Society grounds and will proceed down 50th Avenue, west on 50 Street, south on 53 Avenue, east on 52 Street and south on 51 Avenue, ending back at the OAS grounds. As of press time, there were about 15 entries in the parade but more were still coming in, said Tracey Lundago, special events coordinator with the OAS, the group organizing the parade. There will also be a Christmas market at the Cow Palace from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Following the conclusion of the parade, Potter’s Clay Quartet from Trochu will take the stage at the Cow Palace. Various animals such as baby raccoons, a mini-horse and a de-scented skunk will also be on display. Other events at the Cow Palace include gingerbread and cookie decorating, crafts and facepainting. The events at the Cow Palace will conclude by about 7:30 p.m.
