Academic awards issued to grades 10, 11 students

Several students in grades 10 and 11 were honoured during the annual École Olds High School academic awards night, held Sept. 13.

Several students in grades 10 and 11 were honoured during the annual École Olds High School academic awards night, held Sept. 13.

Carmi Ampo received the Grade 10 Award of Excellence, which is presented to a Grade 10 student who, during his or her Grade 10 year has achieved a high academic standing and excellence in athletics as well as involvement in — and contribution to — school and community activities.

The Grade 10 Initiative Award goes to a student who is willing and able to provide a helping hand for the benefit of the school community. This year, it went to Cayden Andrew.

The Grade 10 Exxon Mobil Award for a student who has displayed perseverance and determination was presented to Scarlett Hutchison.

Ashley Bennett received the Grade 10 Dot's Day Award, which is presented to a Grade 10 student who empowers others to achieve their goals and celebrates the success of others without seeking any recognition for that.

The Canadian Parents For French Olds Chapter Award for Highest Standing In French Language Arts in Grade 10 went to Eygeny Silivanyuk.

Karlee Rosenbargo received the Madison Fleming Kindness Matters Award, which is presented to a Grade 10 student who demonstrates the values and beliefs by which Fleming lived her life. She passed away June 30, 2014 at age 16.

Noah Korver and Emma Zwart were presented with the Rotary Club of Olds Grade 10 Service Above Self Award.

Claire Petersen received the Canadian Parents For French Olds Chapter Highest Standing in French Language Arts 20 Award.

The Gordon Mitchell Spirit Award goes to a Grade 11 student who goes above and beyond to consistently be kind, empathetic and helpful to other students within the high school's community and takes on projects that benefit those who are disadvantaged. This year's winner was Aaron Verhessen.

The MHR LLP "It's My Future" Award goes to a student who, in essay format, best articulates his or her goals and gives evidence of steps taken to achieve those goals. This year's winner was Trinity-Faith Cenaiko.

The Rotary Club of Olds Grade 11 Service Above Self Award went to two students: Lisa Davidson and Kyra Kjargaard.

Noah Martens received the Grade 11 Initiative Award, which goes to a student who is willing and available to give a helping hand for the benefit of the school community.

The Grade 11 Exxon Mobil Award, which is presented to a Grade 11 student who has displayed perseverance and determination, went to Rheanna Mirus.

The Grade 11 Dot's Day Award which goes to a student who helps and empowers others to achieve their goals and celebrates the success of others without seeking recognition, was presented to Indianna Feswick.

Anika Hodge was presented with the Lifetouch Award for having achieved the second highest average in English 20-1, social studies 20-1, mathematics 20-1, and the highest science achievement in biology 20, chemistry 20 or physics 20.
