Academic awards presented at École Olds High School

École Olds High School (EOHS) held its annual academic awards night Friday. Following is the first story in a series regarding that evening. More coverage will be provided later in the Albertan.

École Olds High School (EOHS) held its annual academic awards night Friday.

Following is the first story in a series regarding that evening. More coverage will be provided later in the Albertan.

The Kiwanis award for overall excellence in Grade 12 went to Michael Prysunka. This award goes to a Grade 12 student who, during his or her last year of high school has achieved high academic standing, excellence in athletics, school and community as well as extracurricular activities, and who has demonstrated leadership qualities.

Rexelle Asis received the Grade 12 highest academic standing and Governor General's medal. It goes to a Grade 12 student who has achieved the highest average in English 30-1, social studies 30-1, mathematics 30-1 as well as the highest science achievement in biology 30, chemistry 30 or physics 30.

Asis was also presented with a new honour, the Mitchell Reed Ormann memorial scholarship, which goes to the class valedictorian.

The principal's award for overall contribution to the school was presented to Brodie Johnson by EOHS principal Tom Christensen.

Another new honour, the Mitchell Ormann "You Matter" award, sponsored by Todd, Lisa and Taylor Ormann, went to Denver Cornell and Anthony Walsh.

The Grade 11 award of excellence, which goes to a Grade 11 student who has a high academic standing, attains excellence in athletics and who is deeply involved in and contributes to school and community activities went to Jennifer Conway.

The Grade 11 highest academic standing award was presented to Claire Petersen. It goes to a Grade 11 student who has achieved the highest average in English 20-1, social studies 20-1, mathematics 20-1 and the highest science achievement in biology 20, chemistry 20 or physics 20.

The Grade 10 highest academic standing award, which goes to a Grade 10 student who has achieved the highest average in English 10-1, social studies 10-1, mathematics 10-C and science 10, went to Mona Fazakas.

Two new awards were presented for highest academic standing — one for the blue quad and one for the gold quad. Each goes to a Grade 10 student in their respective quad who has achieved the highest average in English 10-1, social studies 10-1, mathematics 10-C and science 10.

The gold quad award went to Aiden Teal. The blue quad award was presented to Carmi Ampo.

The value of awards handed out this year was $141,475, down slightly from previous years. High school officials say that's because fewer students applied for awards this time around.
