Police believe that alcohol was a factor in a two-vehicle collision that occurred July 13 on Highway 2 just south of the Highway 27 overpass.

Charges are pending as police continue to investigate. Olds RCMP issued a news release on the matter July 18.

They say the crash occurred just before midnight.

"A Honda Accord, driven by a 37-year-old male, was reported to be travelling southbound on Highway 2 at a high rate of speed when it swerved into a semi truck that was also travelling southbound," the news release said.
"The collision caused the car to flip onto its roof and trap the driver inside the vehicle with his arm pinned between the roof and the ground.
"Officers were able to lift the vehicle off the driver's arm in order for EMS to provide continuing medical treatment.
"EMS took the driver to the Didsbury Hospital where he was then transported by STARS (air ambulance) to hospital in Calgary."
The driver of the Honda suffered non-life-threatening injuries and police say the driver of the semi trailer was not injured.
