The Alberta SPCA is investigating allegations of animal cruelty at an April 28 auction in Olds.

Alberta SPCA executive director Terra Johnston confirmed that her organization had received "an animal welfare concern related to an animal consigned" at the auction hosted by Central Alberta Auction Services at an Olds Regional Exhibition facility.

"We have actioned an investigation into the matter," she wrote in an email.

Southern Alberta resident Ty Marshall, who faces animal cruelty charges after 204 animals were seized from his property east of High River last year, had animals for sale at the auction. The SPCA director did not say whether the animal welfare investigation involved Marshall.

Sharon Dacen, who says she fostered two dogs seized from Marshall's property, was at the sale and said in a social media post that "it was very upsetting to see him back in action."

The Alberta SPCA was asked how long the investigation is expected to take.

"Our investigation remains open and ongoing," she wrote.
