Canalta Hotels, which owns the Ramada Inn chain and operates Super 8 Hotels among other properties, is the latest company to sponsor improvements to the new Northwest Athletic Park currently being developed in Olds.

The company has agreed to donate a total of $25,000 over 13 months to ball diamonds and soccer pitches at the park, north of Walmart.

Stripping of land and grading has begun on the site for the athletic park. Further construction, including installation of underground services is expected this summer. Construction of the park is expected to be completed next year.

Under the sponsorship agreement, Canalta Hotels will be the ìOfficial Hotel of Olds Minor Baseball, Softball and Soccer.î

According to consultant Jordan Cleland, who is raising money for sponsorships for the park, minor sports associations and individual teams will be ìhappy to consider Canalta hotels first when they travel for tournaments and other competition, and recommend and promote the Ramada Olds to visiting teams when they host.î

ìAs an additional benefit, the three minor sports associations will benefit from special discounts within the Canalta chain across Western Canada,î a news release says.

The Town of Olds has committed $3 million toward construction of the park. Cleland has been hired to find sponsors to cover costs for various amenities.

Previously, it was announced that Hildebrand Motors will be contributing a total of $25,000 over 26 months toward the ball diamonds and soccer pitches.

Also, Dr. Kyle Craven and Dr. Jasmine Gill, owners of Olds Family Dental Clinic, are contributing a $50,000 sponsorship for the park.
