An antique luggage cart that was used by Canadian Pacific Railway trains to transport luggage from the train platform to the station is currently being restored by two local men.
Dale Saby and Myrle Goddard began restoring the cart about two months ago. Saby has had the cart for about 20 years. Originally his brother, who lives in the village of Bawlf, had the cart.
Goddard, who has built other projects for Saby in the past, said he became intrigued when Saby approached him about the project. Saby has restored much of the metal, putting fresh paint on it, while Goddard has spent about 50 to 60 hours replacing the wood on the cart.
"I got excited about restoring this," Goddard, 86, said. "Pretty near everywhere the train stopped, the town had one of these. It was a challenging thing, but I enjoyed it."
The wood was replaced with six two-by-10 planks, while all of the old bolts used to secure the platform to the metal were also replaced.
Goddard said he remembers in his younger days when he and his twin brother Earl unloaded the carts as part of their work with McLean Cartage in the early 1940s.
