OLDS — A tea and fashion show organized by the IODE Baron Tweedsmuir chapter to celebrate its 90th anniversary in the community was a huge success, says an IODE member.
The event was held April 12 in the Evergreen Centre.
“It was a great event. We sold 126 tickets, a sellout crowd,” Joyce Quaife said in a text.
The Girl Guides served tea, coffee and cake.
Josh Kopp and his four kids played piano as the guests arrived. Award-winning musician Jocelyn Zhou also performed.
“I think everyone was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the clothes we sell from our shop (the Second Time Around IODE Thrift store) and all of the money is donated back into the community,” Quaife wrote.
She said baskets donated by local businesses and some IODE members were a “big hit.”
“We haven’t tallied up what we made altogether, but the money will go to a special project in Olds which is yet to be decided on,” Quaife wrote. “One year we helped furnish a hospice suite at Seasons Encore.”
The April 12 event was the group’s second tea and fashion show. They held one in 2010.
“I certainly hope there’ll be a 100th (anniversary) celebration,” Quaife wrote.
