OLDS - The Town of Olds, Sundre, Didsbury, Carstairs, the Village of Cremona, and Mountain View County have announced plans to work together on developing a regional parks, recreation, and cultural master plan.
The estimated $200,000 project cost is being covered by an Alberta Community Partnership Grant, said Michael Merritt, the Town of Olds' chief administrative officer.
The new master plan will replace the existing plan, which was developed in 2009, taking into account residential, commercial and industrial changes each municipality has seen over the past 12 years.
Once in place the plan will help guide communities in the region to “make informed decisions about the future of parks, recreation and cultural services.”
The planning process will include a call for public input.
Expedition Management Consulting Ltd. has been hired to help develop the plan.
Merritt said the municipal partners and consultant team will “engage with residents, youth, and stakeholder groups in the region early on in the process to gain input on what is important in terms of parks, recreation and culture development in each community and the region.”
Input opportunities will be provided through several avenues, including surveys, digital engagement sessions and interview, he said.
Information on the master plan project can be found on municipal websites, social media accounts, and by contacting municipal offices, he said.
The intention is to have the plan ready for ratification by the partner municipalities in November, he said.
