A suspect wanted on attempted murder was arrested late Sunday night just outside of Bowden.
Edward Dwayne Heywood, 45, was arrested after a police pursuit along Highway 2A.
Heywood was wanted on an attempted murder charge after members of the Sylvan Lake RCMP detachment responded to a 911 call on Dec. 21.
A severely injured man was found at about 7:45 p.m. on the side of a rural road, northwest of Eckville suffering from several stab wounds.
Police confirm that the victim was hospitalized and did not have life-threatening injuries.
Heywood is being held for a bail hearing and will face a number of additional charges as a result of the police chase.
Heywood was also arrested on an outstanding warrant issued by Olds RCMP for assault, assault with a weapon and uttering threats in an unrelated investigation.
At approximately 11 p.m. police spotted the suspect in a stolen truck on Cottonwood Road near Range Road 10, said Insp. Gibson Glavin of Alberta RCMP Strategic Communications.
ìWhen we tried to pull the vehicle over, it failed to stop and a pursuit began,î said Glavin.
During the nearly 30-minute chase, Heywood struck a power pole, an unoccupied parked vehicle and an electrical box, noted Glavin.
ìThe vehicle continued onto highway 2A where we were able to deploy the spike belt,î he said. ìHe drove over the spike belt and towards an open field, where the deflating tires brought the vehicle to a stop.î
Heywood then fled on foot for a very short distance and was arrested by Innisfail RCMP in the field at 11:30 p.m.
During the police pursuit outside of Bowden Sunday night, Glavin said public safety played a factor in the deployment of the spike belt.
