The Olds Municipal Library will be hosting a reading by Alberta-based children's author and illustrator Carolyn Fischer on Oct. 19.
Fischer will be at the library from 1 to 2 p.m. and from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. reading from one of her books.
“Because she's an illustrator as well, a lot of illustrators will do a demonstration on how they do some of the illustrations for their books and she'll be able to answer questions from anybody in the audience,” Lesley Winfield, manager of the library, said.
The event is one of several being planned during Canadian Library Month taking place in October.
“National Library Month is just to remind people (of) everything their library does for them in their community. It's also a way for us to give back and plan some celebrations … for the community and to … have some extra programs available to people,” said Lesley Winfield, manager of the Olds Municipal Library.
National Library Month is a good opportunity for people to get reacquainted with the library and all the services it makes available to the community.
Also on Oct. 19, the library is hosting Snapshot Day all throughout the day.
“It's something that's happening all the way across Alberta. We'll be taking photos and quotes from people that day and finding out why they love their library and what they use their library for,” Winfield said.
The library will also be holding a book sale all throughout the month in which people can buy their favourite titles.
The library is also waiving $1 off fines for every non-perishable food item patrons bring in during the month. All the food collected will then be donated to the Mountain View Food Bank.
