A fundraising banquet and social evening organized by members of the Olds High School Interact Club raised more than $4,000 for three causes: Hope 4 MVC Kids, Gowns for Grads and Tuxes and a food program for students.

"It was a very successful evening with great music, excellent dessert and an interesting raffle table. We had about 170 community members and are so grateful for all the support," says family wellness worker Tane Skotheim who serves as an adviser for the junior Rotary Club.

The banquet and social evening was held March 28 at Olds High School.

Skotheim says of the $4,000 raised during the seventh annual event, $3,000 will go to Hope 4 MVC Kids to raise awareness and provide financial support for that organization.

It provides support and financial aid to any family in Mountain View County whose child may be experiencing a medical crisis.

"Interact members were honoured to have a large number of board members and families who have benefitted from the organization in attendance and we so appreciated the informative and very touching presentation given by the board chairperson and family members," Skotheim says in an article.

Gowns for Grads and Tuxes Too provides locally-donated grad dresses and tuxedos at a reduced price to help families who cannot afford expensive gowns or tuxes.

Skotheim says about $700 is earmarked to cover costs to create a storage facility for those items.

Another $300 will go toward a snack program for students at the high school.

Skotheim notes the banquet and social event occurs annually. Club members decide which cause - or causes - they want to support.

"Since its inception, the Olds Interact Club has benefitted from the continued support and guidance of the Olds Rotary club.

"Each year, Olds Rotary have sponsored up to six students to attend leadership camps and they work hard to support the Interact student initiatives," Skotheim says.

"We were again able to be so successful in our fundraising because of very generous donations from both individuals and local businesses toward our raffle table items and we are indebted to the fantastic bakers who donate each year to make our dessert auction such a success."
