Bowden council appoints interim CAO

Bowden town council has chosen a transitional chief administrative officer (CAO) who will remain in place until a new CAO can start work.

Council last week approved a suggestion by retiring CAO Andy Weiss that Jacqui Molyneux be appointed to that position. She currently handles finances and related matters for the town.

Last month, Weiss announced his intention to retire, effective the end of January.

“Obviously when I'm here I'll still do my thing, but between now and the time I leave, I'm going to be training her and I'm going to be giving her advice and assistance and all that sort of thing,” Weiss told the Albertan.

Weiss says Molyneux is a good choice for the role.

“She has been employed by the town since 2009 and she's very highly skilled in the financial end of things for sure,” he says.

“She's also a longtime resident of the community and given that she's been here for quite some time, residents and staff will basically see a familiar and friendly face to deal with, as opposed to the option of bringing someone from outside.”

In addition to learning the ropes, Molyneux will be able to lighten the load for Weiss as he tries to tie up loose ends before he leaves his position.

“That's part of the reason for Jacqui being appointed the transitional CAO,” he says. “I'm just running from place to place to place and people are coming in the door saying, ‘hey, I need a decision.'”
