BOWDEN ñ A bylaw to govern this fall's municipal election is expected to be passed during council's July 24 meeting.
The bylaw received second reading after some debate during council's July 10 gathering.
During that debate, Coun. Earl Wilson expressed concern about procedures to ensure potential voters provide proper identification.
"I know from being there at the stations (during previous elections), that is a stickler for a lot of people," Wilson said. "They would come up to my level and they didn't have identification."
Coun. Sandy Gamble wondered if signage could be placed on the door warning people to ensure they have proper identification with them before they go into the polling station. She also suggested a notice about that requirement could be placed in the town newsletter.
"We can do that, yeah," chief administrative officer James Mason said.
Coun. Gamble also wondered if the time for nomination could be extended, but Mason said the town had missed the deadline to do so.
At Mayor Robb Stuart's suggestion council voted to give the bylaw second reading, thereby providing another two weeks for "research" before the bylaw comes up for third and final reading July 24.
