The Town of Bowden is looking to add a few more volunteers to round out its firefighting roster.
Currently, there are 17 volunteers in the department, but chief Larry Werner said he would like to see about 25 people available for emergencies. While he said the current number is adequate, it's always beneficial to have a few more people to help ease the workload of everyone involved.
“Some people work shift work (and) some work out of town, so it's always nice to have lots of members and that way it sort of all balances out in the end,” he said.
Werner said there wasn't one particular issue that necessitated a call for volunteers. He said the department runs an ad in the town newsletter almost on a year-round basis, looking for those few extra bodies to help make the department run just a little more smoothly.
“We're like any other small town … volunteer organization in the province. It's a good way to show your support to the community,” he said.
Anyone wanting to join the department can either drop by the town office and pick up an application package or visit the fire hall during practices on Mondays at 7 p.m.
