A 59-year-old Bowden man was killed Sept. 27 when the flatbed truck he was driving struck a gravel truck that was stopped on Highway 595 while preparing to turn north on Delburne Road. The crash occurred shortly before 7:50 a.m.
Red Deer Rural RCMP determined the eastbound gravel truck was struck from behind by the flatbed truck. The driver and only occupant of the gravel truck, a 43-year-old Blackfalds woman, was taken to hospital by Emergency Medical Services for treatment of non-life- threatening injuries.
No charges are being considered.
The name of the deceased is not being released, at the request of family.
Charges pending from traffic stop
A 21-year-old female from Athabasca and 19-year-old male from Drumheller have been charged as a result of a traffic stop at 1:30 a.m. on Sept. 30. The woman, who was driving the vehicle on Highway 27, was pulled over by Olds RCMP for signs of impairment. She was subsequently charged with driving while over the legal limit and impaired driving.
The male passenger, who police say was also intoxicated, returned to the detachment after the vehicle was towed. He made several calls to the police dispatch centre saying he was cold and in need of an ambulance. He was arrested and charged with mischief.
The woman will be appearing in court on Oct. 31.
Man charged with possession
Olds RCMP located a 24-year-old male who was smoking a controlled substance outside one of the drinking establishments in Olds on Sept. 25. As a result of a subsequent search, the man was charged with possession of a controlled substance.
Man charged with resisting arrest
A 22-year-old man from Olds will be appearing in Didsbury court following an incident outside a local establishment on Sept. 25.
The man was spotted outside a local establishment at about 4 a.m. with obvious signs of impairment. When police attempted to arrest him for public intoxication, he resisted arrest and was subsequently charged with resisting arrest.
