The cause of a fire that destroyed a valuable antique car and tractor collection last month remains unknown.

Acting Fire Chief Scott Chant confirmed the investigation has concluded and the cause of the fire, which broke out on the property of Bert and Joyce Curtiss north of Olds on the afternoon of March 9, is undetermined.

It took 33 firefighters from five departments more than six hours to extinguish the blaze, and the rural location required 140,000 gallons of water to be trucked in.

The fire destroyed a massive old dairy barn that had been converted into a shop, along with some 80 antique and new cars, and refurbished tractors. It was determined that the fire originated on a mezzanine level of the shop, near an area where Curtiss said he painted the vehicles.

Total damage is estimated to be more than $3 million.
